I would like to give my full support to submission KCC-C55-147 as a robust and yet simple solution to the biodiversity crisis we are facing. To my mind, using the peatland as a carbon sink is the best course of action for Kildare in terms of achieving its 2030 target. Extreme caution should be taken regarding the provision of wind energy close to areas of conservation. My current understanding is that disjointed pockets of "wildlife" are being proposed instead of having a large superficy left alone for the conservation of local biodiversity. The concept of the national peatlands park also has the potential of further developing eco-tourism in the area (adding to the successful attractions of Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park and the Bog of Allen Nature Centre), which in this part of the county is badly needed as part of a Just Transition.
