Agro tourism and nature based solution

As Seán McCabe wrote in an article on the Think-tank for Action on Social Change (TASC) website in 2019, ’while agriculture is the most unequal sector in the Irish economy in terms of income, recent studies have shown that, globally, openness to trade leads to significant income inequality for farmers…suggesting that the current globalised food system is contributing to increasing global inequality.’ 202205-Feasta-ag-goalposts

Kildare tourism is underplayed. This is a great opportunity to put Kildare on the global map as champions of tracibility and agro economies. Will KCC focus on growing agro tourism with flavours of Kildare with leadership from other EU countries to be a hub of excellence in the land of Brigid for nature based solutions and farm linked tourism including but not limited to sheep , horse farms and organic producers. Kildare have UCD Lyons Farm and Maynooth University to work with on research on agro SME solutions and multiple KWETB providers to school the sector on being an agro tourism leader.

That an ambition for KCC to build a Social Innovation Hub a coworking space for a community of people from different professions and backgrounds. An inclusive co-working hubs in a Brigid inspired inter generational, fair and green ethos and impactful hub, as its goal to address complex social problems by supporting social and entrepreneurial ventures. That the hub supports local markets and their ecosystems

The Hub to be a home to a mix of people – creatives, not for profits, entrepreneurs and small emerging businesses and it is in this mix that innovation and magic happens. A KCC hub to incubate social ventures that are committed to solving environmental and social problems. It is also where supports and developmental small start- up businesses resources are to be provide with the tools they need to succeed. W Kildare place to access experience, knowledge, finance and markets and above all, a place for making long term and international best practitioner connections.

As per chapter 4

In decarbonisation of the local economy job creation can be created in

  • Education on data waste and e-waste so that young people realise the negative impacts of digital
  • Comprehensive focus on e-waste recycling
  • Support for local “repair cafes” where people can bring their electronics to get fixed
  • The council deciding to buy refurbished and remanufactured digital equipment

Duckweed is being used on bogs as a nature based solution

That Kildare be a pilot and invest in becoming the international champion for eco tourism in palludicture to show the viability of duckweed for example in decarbonisation e.g. How to bury carbon? Let plants do the dirty work. - Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (cshl.edu) https://www.usda.gov/sites/default/files/documents/Duckweed_Factsheet.pdf.

That KCC measure and link to reports on Duckweed. Duckweed is being used on bogs as a nature based solution ecoservice and KCC partner with experts like Brookhaven National Laboratory and UCC to explore the plant’s potential as raw material for making liquid fuels to replace petroleum domestically . In principle, plant-based fuels would be endlessly renewable and carbon neutral and that KCC will research this as home grown energy in response to the supply chain and fossil fuel planetary effects.
