15 - Development Management Standards

Chapter 15 Development Management Standards

Butterfly Conservation Ireland (BCI) offers the following comments and suggested amendments to Chapter 15 of the Kildare County Development Plan 2023-2029. Key comments and suggested amendments are indicated in bold.

The content of Soft Landscaping at 15.2.5 regarding tree and hedgerow planting and retention is welcome.

The question I have in relation to 15.2.5: How are planting and tree and hedgerow retention requirements verified? Are enforcement measures taken in the event of non-compliance?

15.2.5: Purging/Common Buckthorn HP and Grey Willow AHDV should be included in the Table 0.2 Native Trees and Shrubs.

Submission prepared by Jesmond Harding, Butterfly House, Butterfly Conservation Ireland, Pagestown, Mulhussey, Maynooth, Co. Kildare W23 N8C2.

Príomh-thuairim:

To protect and enhance biodiversity and the quality of life of Kildare's residents and visitors, it is vital that native plants grown from native seed, are planted.

Príomh-iarratais:

Mandate the retention of native trees and shrubs in developments, and mandate that new planting in developments are native species from native seed.

Main reasons:

Protect and enhance biodiversity.
