The Royal Canal Greenway is currently being extended from Maynooth to Clonsilla passing through Leixlip. An opportunity exists to provide a new dedicated pedestrian and cyclist route between these greenways between Leiclip and Celbridge where they are in closest proximity.

KCC have planned a number of new walking and cycle in the environs of Leixlip and Celbridge and the Castletown Demense which will link with the Royal Canal Greenway at Louisa Bridge and Confey through Castletown Demense and through the Wonderful Barn meeting at the bridge ocer the River Liffey on the R404 at the Salmon Leap Canoe Club.

I propose that a new protected cycle and walkway be extended from that point along the R404 crossing the Celbridge / Lucan Rd at Youngs Cross and proceeding in a South Easterly direction alongside Stacummy Lane and then in a southerly direction along Tubber Lane Road crossing the railway line and then joining up with the Grand Canal Greenway at the point where they are adjoining.

Both Stacummy Lane and Tubber Lane have very low housing density and low traffic levels and pass through pleasant countryside. The land along Stacummy Lane section is primarily in State ownership as the Dept. of Agriculture Backweston State Laboratory Research facility with no private housing while Tubber Lane Road is primarily farmland and has very few houses.
