 PROPOSED TRAFFIC CALMING MEASURES

SECTION 38 OF THE ROAD TRAFFIC ACT 1994

In accordance with the provisions of Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994, Kildare County Council hereby gives notice of its intention of:

National Cycle Network (NCN) Road Space Re-Allocation Pilot R448 Moone to Timolin, Co.Kildare comprising of

  • Construction of a pilot cycle scheme on the R448.
  • Reallocation of the existing hard shoulders along the R448 from Moone to Timolin.
  • Installation of uni-directional cycle lanes within the existing hard shoulders.
  • Installation of varying cycle lane/carriageway segregation features, including landscaped, modular and road marking segregation.
  • Installation of gateway treatments at either end of the scheme; north of the R747 junction and south of the R448 exit to St. Colmcilles Catholic National School.
  • Installation of uncontrolled crossings in the vicinity of the R747 junction, Timolin Terrace, Moone Road and the R448 exit to St. Colmcilles, Catholic National School.
  • Reduction in R448 carriageway lane widths to 3.5m.
  • Reduction in corner radii at the R747, Timolin Terrace, Moone Road and the R448 exit to St. Colmcilles Catholic National School junctions.
  • Removal of the north and southbound left turn lanes on approach to the R747 junctions.
  • Provision of red thermoplastic surfacing within the cycle lane at all junctions and accesses.
  • Provision of carriageway and cycle markings and signage.

Drawings showing the proposed works may be inspected during normal opening hours at the following locations from Tuesday, 07 May to Friday, 07 June 2024 at the following locations:

  • The offices of Kildare County Council, Transport, Mobility and Open Spaces Department, Level 4, at the address below, Monday – Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. by appointment.

Any objections, submissions or representations may be made in writing to the A/Senior Executive Officer, Transport, Mobility and Open Spaces,  Level 4, Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park Naas, Co. Kildare  or by clicking "make a submission"  on the consultation portal https://consult.kildarecoco.ie/en on or before 5:00 p.m. on Friday, 14 June 2024.
