Path needed on Boreen Rd, straffan
Tuairim
Boreen Rd in Straffan. The only road leading from Straffan village that does not have a path on it. The road that is directly across from the shop, and at side of church and cemetery. It’s also a very windy road, with lots of bends which makes walking it extremely dangerous. A path on this road is badly needed.
There is ample room the whole way along it to put a path. There is a ditch the whole way down from the village until it goes straight. It is only once the road goes straight that there is a grass verge to step into. On the dangerous part of the road there isn’t even a strip of grass or anywhere to step in.
The Kclub have permanently closed the side gates on the Boreen Rd to pedestrians and this has caused a huge increase in footfall on the road, along with an increase in population and walkers on the road in past years particularly since people got in the habit during covid.
Driving on the road is equally dangerous as you need to aware of pedestrians possible being around each bend, but people not local to the road speed down it.
When you look at villages like Rathcoffey, where there are paths to even a few houses, it’s hard to believe that people in the direction of the Boreen road are still without a path. It is badly needed even if only until the road goes straight.
I addition to the need for a path, for safety reason, there is also the environmental aspect. Everyone on that road has to drive to school and the public transport. There’s no parking in the village either, which causes a mess at the school, and also means that people can’t even drive to Straffan and use public transport, or the local shop. You need to drive always to your destination.
I hope you will be able to put forward my concerns and have it highlighted that a path is urgently needed on the Boreen Rd. The fact that there was no path on the draft development plan for Straffan show how oblivious the planners are to the needs of the people living in the area.
