PROPOSED 30 KPH SPEED LIMIT IN

RESIDENTIAL HOUSING ESTATES TAKEN IN CHARGE

(JAKE’S LAW)

SECTION 9,  ROAD TRAFFIC ACT 2004 (as amended)

 

In accordance with the provisions of Section 9 of the Road Traffic Act 2004 as amended, Kildare County Council hereby gives notice of its intention to implement:

30 kph speed limit byelaws for housing estates taken in charge in County Kildare.

These byelaws are an important safety measure to reduce speed limits in residential areas in line with Jake's Law. The proposed byelaws are presented in 5 Volumes defined by each Municipal District as follows:

•           Volume 1 - Clane / Maynooth Municipal District

•           Volume 2 - Celbridge / Leixlip Municipal District

•           Volume 3 - Kildare / Newbridge Municipal District

•           Volume 4 - Naas Municipal District

•           Volume 5 - Athy Municipal District

 

Public Consultation

The proposed byelaws will be on public display from the 23 September 2025 to 04 November 2025. The proposed byelaws and associated mapping can be viewed online at:

Or viewed in person during normal opening hours at the following locations from the 23 September 2025 to 04 November 2025 at the following locations:

The offices of Kildare County Council, Transport, Mobility and Open Spaces, Level 4, at the address below, Monday – Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. by appointment.

Submissions

Submissions are invited from the public relating to the proposed 30kph speed limit byelaws for housing estates taken in charge in County Kildare. The purpose of the new speed limit will be to provide for more appropriate speeds on residential roads.

Submissions or observations relating to the above-mentioned speed limit review can be made online at the link below. When making a submission please reference the name of the housing estate and town/village in which it is located in the text of the submission.
