Consultation for the Scheme for the Establishment of Strategic Policy Committees

Kildare County Council has prepared a Draft Scheme for the Establishment of Strategic Policy Committees for the term of the new Council to 2029.

The role of each of the Strategic Policy Committees (SPCs) is to assist the full Council (40 elected members) in the formulation, development and review of policy in relation to functions of a strategic nature, subject to the relevant statutory framework.

The Council is the decision-making authority, and it is the task of SPCs, as committees of the Council, to advise the Council in the context of policy formation and development.

Each SPC (there are six proposed) will provide advice and reports to the Council on any policy matter within their range of responsibilities. Background work, discussion and recommendations will be completed at SPC level before final consideration and ratification by the Council.

The following are the six Strategic Policy Committees proposed:

  • Climate Action
  • Environment and Water Services
  • Planning, Enterprise & Economic Development
  • Housing and Regeneration
  • Local Community, Culture and Integration
  • Transport, Mobility and Open Spaces
