The consultation

The Strategic Projects and Public Realm (SPPR) Team of
Kildare County Council (KCC), appointed an urban
designer led consultant team, Metropolitan Works, in
September 2019 to carry out a Health Check / Urban
Design Analysis and Town Renewal Plan for Celbridge.
The key objectives of this Plan is to deliver a vision for
the town with pedestrian focused public spaces and
liveable streets. The aim is to put the pedestrian and
cyclist at the heart of the design solutions for the town
and to create fully accessible, inclusive and age-friendly
public spaces.

Your views and suggestions

A total of 87 comments were received from members of
the public on consultation material provided on Kildare
County Council's public consultation website. A youth
survey was also carried out at the same time which
aimed to gain an understanding of the spaces where
young people in Celbridge like to meet up and what they
would like to see for their town. A total of 271 responses
where received which are analysed further in this report.
Respondents to the online presentation were permitted to
comment freely, without the confines of a questionnaire,
therefore, many responses contained multiple comments.
For the purposes of establishing the figures contained in
this document, we have extracted and categorised all
points under the following headings:
• Cycle & Pedestrian
• Transport & Parking
• Facilities
• Upkeep
• Other

Outcomes

During the Urban Design Analysis and Public
Consultation process the study area focused on the
town centre and wider town area. This study area has
been continued into the development of delivery projects
whereby sites and areas have been identified across the
town for further consideration with a major emphasis on
town centre first.
The priority projects are aligned with the Council’s vision
for Celbridge and the policies highlighted in the Celbridge
Local Area Plan. They also respond to public consultation
held upon the completion of the urban design analysis
conducted as part of the development of this document.
The following priority projects have emerged and will
developed further in the next stage of this Town Renewal
Plan process:
• Project 1: Town Centre Improvements including
Play and Seating Interventions
• Project 2: The Mill & Surrounds
• Project 3: Enhance & Develop Green Infrastructure
• Project 4: Upgrade Cycle Infrastructure
• Project 5: Enhance & Reinforce Heritage Trail
