I live near the Grand Canal, and use the existing sections of the Greenway on a regular basis.
The potential for the Grand Canal Greenway is enormous, and the remaining uncompleted sections should be prioritised for completion ASAP.
The Grand Canal Greenway will be a key link from Dublin (a large population & a key tourist hub) to the Barrow Blueway, the River Shannon and other sustainable travel routes, and to other tourist locations.
As above, this project should be prioritised and the bridges built as soon as possible.
This is also a good opportunity to implement the required infrastructure for a greenway:
- Seating
- Signage
- Information about the local area
- Maps
- Bins
- Water taps
- etc.
Construction of bridges will provide a good opportunity to install Greenway infrastucture at the same time
Grand Canal Greenway has taken a long time to get this far, and priority is needed to complete these last remaining sections.
