I am delighted to say that this Local area plan for Kildare is one of the best in a long time. It is well designed and easy to understand.
I am also very happy with the conclusion that there is at present enough land zoned for Housing and Employment.
The SCA is a great way of showing this with the different Tiers. The fact that the NPF places an emphasises on the need for compact, smart and sustainable growth and requires 30% of all new housing to be within existing urban footprints, thus reducing the amount of greenfield land required to meet future housing requirements.
Re Land Use Zoning map, I am also pleased to see that the Green belt, Zoned G, National Stud/Green Belt has not changed and the future of this land remains unspoilt. On the North side of this belt it is so important in protecting the Curragh, also the Curragh will be soon if not already be a special area of conservation.
The preservation of hedge rows in as many undeveloped fields and also within the boundaries of lands zoned for development is critically important.
The provision of the Curragh Buffer zone is an excellent plan, And hopefully native semi-mature trees will be used
On the Movement and Transportation Road measures Map, the former Magee Barracks Phase 1 and Phase 2 roads should be completed at the same time. This could facilitate a safer Entrance/Exit to Lidl as the present design is very unsafe. It would also reduce traffic into the town by creating an alternative route for all estates feeding into Melita road (R413)
The closure of one side of the square, Bride Street will make it very difficult for large vehicles to turn right at Macaries. All this extra traffic would make it very difficult to use the proposed Water tower car park.
