Dear KCC,
In relation to the Harbour Field Redevelopement Maynooth, please find my suggestions and comments below -
1. Antisocial issues (Old Wall and thus Lane Removal) - I wish to strongly suggest the old stone wall (and thus back lane) which runs parallel between the Harbour Field (Green field area) and the Straffan Road into the village, be removed. Removing this wall removes an ongoing anti-social problem with this back lane way. It is regularly used for drinking and drug use, as well as a public toilet. There are hundreds of cans throw behind the mature trees on the lane also. This is a no-go area for woman or children, and is not at all inkeeping with the surrounding area. This would be a great opportunity to remove an antisocial problem area, and thus increase a great public and family amenity.
2. Playground and current courts - I noted they would be a redevelopment of the playground. I do hope the playground while maintain its current mass (as good or better than current offering), as there is a large population of young children in the area between 2-10 years old that use the playground weekly. The basketball courts are also used very regularly by teens, and would be retained ideally in tandem along with the new stake parks, adult gym etc.
3. Landscaping - The green field area requires adequate benches, trees plants, flowers and paving. I see there is plans for this also.
4. Toilets and Bins - There are currently no toilets in the area to the best of my knowledge, these perhaps could be considered? Also, the enough of bins in the Harbour area is inadequate, and leads to overflowing bins, and trash bags left beside the bins.
There are some great ideas in the redevelopments, i.e. boardwalk, adult gym etc, but please consider the above, and especially No.1 in relation to the antisocial issues pertaining from the lane way / dividing stone wall.
Many thanks,
Lar Hickey
