I have been very impressed with the redevelopment plan for the Harbour Field but have a few observations:

Basketball space: the present teenage recreation area contains a small basketball court.  It is the most used feature of this space and is indeed used by teenagers and adults.  It is a source of great integration as the mix of users is hugely multi ethnic. It would be a total oversight not to include a basketball area in the redevelopment plan and would completely ignore the massive impact it has. If anything I would say a second similar court would be a welcome addition.

Adult Gym: the adult gym that exists in the present field has only ever been used by children as an extended playground. I have never observed any adults using the equipment for training purposes. I would suggest that this area be excluded and reused as an extra basketball area which would benefit adults and teenagers alike.

Retaining wall running along the Straffan Road side of the field: This wall is reputed to be a famine wall and as such it would be desirable to retain and perhaps feature it as of historical significance especially as Maynooth Harbour is already on the Strokestown Famine path.

Diagonal path running through the field: It would appear that this path takes up quite a bit of space in the centre of the field when space is needed for basketball courts or to extend the kick about area as provided. The field is presently being used by a budding inter-racial cricket group which appears to be growing. Extra space for such community activities would seem desirable over a diagonal path which looks well aesthetically but may not be the most advantageous for users.
