Monasterevin to Portarlington Greenway - Feasibility Study
Kildare County Council in co-operation with Laois County Council and Offaly County Council have undertaken a feasibility study to examine the potential for the development of a greenway between Monasterevin and Portarlington. Six potential routes have been identified. A baseline study has been completed examining;

Biodiversity
Waterbodies, soil & geology
Drainage, Structure & Traffic
Air, Noise, Climate
Built Heritage, Archaeology & Cultural Heritage
Recreation & Tourism

We are now seeking input from the public on the potential options. While it is still at an early stage in the process, public opinions are welcomed on the emerging ideas.
The project is supported by the Department of Rural and Community Development’s Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS), which provides for the detailed development of projects with the objective of providing for new outdoor recreational infrastructure and/or, the enhancement of existing outdoor recreational infrastructure, to contribute to healthy active lifestyles. It also supports the economic and tourism potential of the area for both local communities and visitors alike.

The project is now at ‘options’ stage and Kildare County Council is seeking help in gathering further information and views from people who live, visit or work in or near Monasterevin and Portarlington, to help shape the project as it progresses towards the selection of a preferred option.
